Some mornings, nothing sounds nicer than a tall carmel frappuccino for a little caffeine kick-in-the-butt, right?
But is that “energy-high” sustainable? Does it make your body and mind feel energized and focused for long periods of time? Do you begin to feel like you’ve hit a brick wall around 3 pm or have a massive sugar craving after lunch?
These ill-feelings have biological reasons behind them and could be the culprit for other health issues as well.
For thousands of years, yoga has been practiced in all parts of the world to improve mental stamina, agility, and support overall health.
If you’re interested in creating a new morning routine, try starting the day off with these 3 yoga positions to help you feel energized all day long.
Watch as your body and mind begin to change overtime into a happier, healthier you.
1. Spinal Flex/Camel Ride
Begin sitting in a crossed legged position with a straight back, and with your shoulders back. As you inhale, bring the chest forwards, shoulders back and lift the head. As you exhale, curl the shoulders and round the back–slowly bringing your chin to chest. Repeat for 3 minutes.
2. Back Platform Pose
Begin by laying on your back with your arms laying next to your side. Inhale deeply in this rested position, but as you exhale, tighten your legs, glutes and shoulders and come up into an elevated position. Perform a series of breathing while elevated (known of Breath of Fire) by taking short and rapid deep breaths from your navel. Finish by holding the posture for 15 seconds and practicing normal breathing before relaxing again.
3. Stretch Pose
Sit on the floor with legs out stretched as wide as possible. While keeping a straight back, reach for your toes as far as your body will allow and bring your head up for a gentle stretch. Give a big exhale while in this position. As you inhale, curl your back and bring your chin to chest. Breathe deeply while slowly transitioning from 1 position to another. Continue for 3 minutes.
